Since these Pics where taken she has been striped and the missing fenders have been replaced. the end of this week she goes K&K for body and paint work. Very Happy

This is about what I imagine she will look like when she is done, a little plain. Most likely going back to the stock color, L 620 (02) savannah beige. The engine will most likely be a TypeIV 2.3L fuel Injection by MegaSquirt.

I have been stalking The Samba forums since 2003 and bought my first car a 1959 Ragtop off the samba in 2004. I look forward contributing to the forums and reporting on my progress with the 69.

Have you had K&K do body and paint work before? How is there work?

No, but I have been going to the Parts side of K&K for as long as I can remember. I checked out some of there work and was pleased with the results. I will be posting pics as the work is done so you can be the judge at that point. Very Happy

Very nice, savannah beige is one of my favorite colors. I like your vision for the finished car also, I think it's best to be subtle. And with a monster powerplant like that, it'll be a killer sleeper!

Ya, the whole thing spun out of control as a project. When I first bought the car I was just going to primer black it and put it back on the road with a stock TypeIII engine. About a week later I was cleaning my father’s shed out and found three TypeIV engines in beautiful shape. Three weeks later I found out how much I was getting back in taxes. Now it’s turned into a full restoration but I'm a much happier TypeIII owner for it. Laughing

As promised more pics of the fastback.

Below are the pics of the work I did around the windows. Most of the cleanup was done with a wire wheel and was later sprayed with automotive primer.

Nice project. It's gonna be a nice looking fastback. Why didn't you post it in the T3 forum...? You would have had much more comments.

My bad its a MegaSquirt II for the fuel injection system going on the car. The CB Performance throttle bodies are on there way as well.

Nice bug by the way Cool

If you haven't found a distributor to work with the MSnS, try and find a mex beetle distributor and harness from a FI engine. They're hall sensor equipped and work great with MSnS.

With some luck she is off to be blasted, patched with a battery tray section from T3D, and primed this week. Cool

Oh and in case you are wondering how I cleaned it; propane torch, stainless steel scraper and a good rub down after with mineral spirits.

Well it’s been some time since I last updated you all on the status of my 69, so here it goes. In early May I lost my job causing a lack of funds (or should I say, a lack of wanting to spend funds) so the project got put on a short hold (or what I had hoped was a short hold) at the time of this post I have yet to find a job. But in the last few weeks, I have started to do what I can to get a step in the right direction. With some luck in the next few days “I hope”, to have the front and back axles disassembled, primed and painted ready for reassembly. The pan is at K&K getting some patch work and paint, with “a little more luck” the axles and pan might be reunited in a month or so.

Pics to come soon

Looking good mate, I'm really interested to see that MS system, are you planning to go crankfire as well on that engine or is it already built into the MS?
