Gentlemen, I give you the Moroso coolant bleeding valve,
you must push the button to bleed. Only do this while engine is cold. _________________ Tencentlife said,

SURE you give us the Image and a ahint, but you didn't really give us the valve.. one problem is it is 1/8NPT and the front rad screw is a fine thread metric.
What I did was to hook a CIS injection Banjo fitting to that screw then to a small hose with a lever/swing valve in it with a drain hose down towards the ground/spare tire.. I put that into a bucket and open the valve to burb the coolant. but I also use a Garden pump Sprayer to pressurize and charge the system to get the coolant & air moving.. you can have this hooked up while the engine is running to no ill effect..

I figured guys would be able to find it and put two and two together.

doesn't that create a siphon effect and suck out more than you need to? _________________ Tencentlife said,

well I guess my method is more of a flush then a burp..
as I've got incoming fluid from the spray bottle. and if there's air up there it burps with the flush.. only less then a pint anyways..
if I just had the banjo fitting and a short hose to a swing valve.. then it'd burb butmake more of a mess.
like you, I'm just offering out ideas on what may or may not make sense to the rest of the class.
both are nice ideas.. but yours won't thread into the rad.. nor the cooling loop without modification..
there are also 1/8NPT Radiator bleed vlaves that are a twist type.. but same thread issue.
I do like this valve.. and will keep it in mind.

(seriously I have no idea) _________________ Tencentlife said,

Why do it when the engine's cold? You're just going to suck in air that way. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

CUZ you must push the button down manually. so maybe this thing is not that great but I think there was another reason to do it cold. if you use a Libby bong that will stand up on its own you can run around and push the button to let the air out you don't have to run the engine or try to thread the bleeder bolt with coolant gushing out. _________________ Tencentlife said,

Mine is M8 x 1.25.
Coarse in that size, actually. Fine is 1.0. At M10 fine becomes 1.25, coarse 1.5.
I like Dan's banjo fitting idea. Nice to control the fluid instead of dribbling it all over the place.
Are some of the rads fine thread? Aren't CIS banjo bolts fine?
I made this up awhile ago:
Bad pic but you get the idea. Works nice; you don't have to manage rethreading the bolt while fluid is spewing out. I wanted to make up a bunch and give them away, but haven't found the right length bolt in SS in small pkgs. Can't see going to the trouble to make them in plated. _________________ Shop for unique and useful Vanagon accessories at the Vanistan shop:

| Maybe I am missing something, but I have always found bleeding either the 1.9 or 2.1 Vanagons to be very easy. No special toys needed. It seems to me that people fear the bleeding process so badly they end up making it many times harder than it really is. |

Maybe you are missing something, then: that this is one of the rare cooling system bleeding threads where no one said anything about it being hard. These are just creative ideas to make it a little more convenient, and/or less messy.
I like them all. I think Gordy's is cool, too bad it's the wrong size.
But since you don't like special toys, just straight-up old school for WT, if I do get around to handing out bleeder bolts, I guess you'll want me to cross your name off the list. _________________ Shop for unique and useful Vanagon accessories at the Vanistan shop:

Yup, that works, too. It's just that I got a lathe and like to play. _________________ Shop for unique and useful Vanagon accessories at the Vanistan shop:

Keep at it, Chris, your modified bolt would be a great improvement on the stock bleeder bolt.
I wonder if that banjo bolt rig could have some soft of valve on that. Moroso expects you to drill a hole in your radiator, I think they'd do better with a series of threaded collar adapters for the valve body. But I suppose a lot of the old iron to which they cater doesn't have a bleed screw at all.
