A few hundred miles ago I refilled my transmission and the level looks good when I check it running in neutral on level ground after a bit of driving , but after an hour or two of driving it checks about a centimeter above the max line on the dipstick. Is this normal or should I drain a bit of fluid?
Thanks for any advice you can share![/b]

May we assume it is an Automatic Transmission?

Automotive fluids expand as they warm up, virtually any fluid does.

You don't want to exceed the top line excessively if at all.

Between the high and low markings are the safe zone for safe operation.

I simply wouldn't fill it as much as you have it.

Honestly, a millimeter is akin to nothing when it comes to fluid levels.

Many have found that WBX engine oil is best kept at the 1/2 mark on the dipstick. Some tend to use oil if above that 1/2 way point.

A centimeter is pushing the limit in my mind, I would drain or suck a bit out. When filling I usually use less than called for and then add once warmed up to make sure it is at the lower line and then add more as needed once the tranny is nice and hot.

Doesn't the Bentley / owner's manual specify to check the ATF after warming the engine/trans by driving a certain number of miles (6 or 7 IIRC)?

If that's the case, and if you drove much farther than that, doesn't it stand to reason that the ATF could be higher than the mark just because the trans is warmer than the specified condition for checking the level?
