What gets me is just how neat, clean and precise everything is. But could you imagine a new Vanagon being built there?

Domo,
I was watching this last night. Pretty cool the part where the engine bay/cargo floor and the entire side walls of the van come together in that single station. From formless sheetmetal slabs to the back of a Vanagon in seconds. Agree the uniformity and cleanliness was cool. Wish the resolution was better as i wanted to slo mo the part where the floor pans are rolling down the assembly line to see all the little bends and forms...

Whups, thought you were talking about something else, Domo. Last night I ran across some vintage video footage of the Vanagon plant in operation. It was on another Vanagon site. Shows the huge rolls of steel arriving. Then sheets being cut. Sheets roll into presses and come out with those distinct Vanagon lines. Then they're held in position by automated clamps, welded together, and voila! A Vanagon body rolling down the line. This is pretty cool stuff, too.
