this question pertains to a grey 1950 standard beetle. if this model was equipted with pop outs what color would the frames be? chrome, black or grey? i know standards came with ragtops so pop outs were a possibility. just trying to determine the finish they'd have. |

If you asking if it were equipped by the dealer in 1950, as an accessory option, I can't imagine them being anything but aluminum as they all were "out of the box". That would be the earliest version of those without the frame seal. I suspect that if dealers had them at all, they would just sell and install them for customers out of the box. I can't imagine them painting them. There is no evidence that I have ever seen of the factory installing them.... _________________ John Henry

what about these from a 1950 factory photo, its a 1/2 popout with black rubber frame? I've seen a few old photos of these type but never seen one in person, I would guess that these would be correct for a 1950 ?

As I see this car, It seems to be the car that used by 2 Belgian lady's who drove to Africa. The hight of the ride is not the normal beetle hight. It seems to be a Kubel drive train was used.
I remember that somwhere I read that those windows are only used once.
Not sure about that.
Best regards. Peter _________________ Zelensis, glassfibre body made in Belgium , disigned and built on a VW platform About 25 body's built.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the deal is with the ride height on the one I pictured, the one from the Africa trip is a lot lower and lighter colored, the pic is from the Etzold Vol. 1 page 21, just says 1950 sunroof, doesnt mention why its jacked up or the pop outs, I just like that they are plain black with no frames, kind of like the fastback glass bending popouts, would look better on a standard I think but don't know if any examples exist? _________________ There is an idea of a Billmetric; some kind of abstraction. Hello John,
You see it right !!! The attach is different with 3 joints.
Without any doubts, It is a version for the standards with black knob. |
