As I got it.
Body coming off. My oldest, Drew, turning wrenches and bustin' knuckles.
Stripping the old nasty paint.

Back from mixed media blasting. Walnut, glass chips, and sand. Hand sanded then expoxy primed.

Anthracite with red interior. I have og Foxcraft skirts to go on it, Australian flash trim kit, chromed Rader's with custom red line tires, 5.5" beam. The motor is the original 40hp with a big bore kit, Speedwell sprint kit, Fram remote filter, Okrasa coil oil cooler, and Abarth 4 tip muffler. The chasis is already a roller. Just waiting for the paint and body. _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

Goodness, it's like you're building a car from one of my own dreams! I sure wish I had a beetle as nice as that to put all of that cool stuff on. Good on your son for getting involved with the project; start 'em out while their young . Like PULPO says, keep us updated with as many pictures as you can. With a car that sounds as cool as this, I'll definitely be watching this build-up. |

Rims with custom Nankang 135's. I'm running a BF Goodrich 205/65 matching lines on the rear.
Restored Speedwell Sprint kit

Dave, what stripper do you use? What's your process? Does it bite through in one application, or do you go layer by layer? This thing is looking great by the way! _________________ Check out my video series at www.youtube.com/midnightoilgarage |

Hey Brad,
I used to buy Aircraft paint stripper from Napa and it worked well but the guys at the store suggested that I save some money and just buy furniture paint and varnish stripper from Home Depot. It worked just as well as the expensive stuff. It took two applications to get down to bare metal.
That being said, the media blaster was waaaay faster and very reasonable. I'd never strip another car by hand again.
Maybe you can see the car in person and help me lift if onto the rotisserie at the same time. _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

I've had mixed experiences with paint strippers, thanks for the info. I'll have to get the details on the media blaster you used, sounds like a good process.
You know I'm available whenever you need me. Just give me a shout. _________________ Check out my video series at www.youtube.com/midnightoilgarage |

Welding is done as is most of the body work. Almost ready for first full prime. Hoping to shoot colour after the Vegas show in October.
