The air cleaner shown in these pictures from the 1967 EMPI catalog shows the one missing element of VW Shorrock items. Nobody has one, it's the distinctive original air cleaner that came with the EMPI Shorrock Kit.

Nobody knows if it was specifically made for the kit (seems unlikely) or if an off the shelf aftermarket air cleaner was used.

My opinion is that it's a aftermarket cleaner. It's very distinctive in its detail, those 10 tell-tale breather holes...surely someone has seen one before. Smile

Yeah I've exchanged PMs with William before...as I say it's the one element none of us owners possess. Not even Alejandro Martin has one and he has stacks of Shorrock bodies and parts. He has in the past suggesting having them reproduced but there are so few owners they would be fearfully expensive.

Again, I'm convinced, (or have convinced myself) they are aftermarket.

Interesting fan shroud on that engine too. Looks like a stale air round top, but with factory looking fresh air heater outlets.

Ah well, kind of encouraging as it does show they are out there somewhere. The trouble is as a generic "Vintage Air Cleaner" searching for images throws up all sorts...all of them drawing a blank. My only hope is it was also used as a stock cleaner on a car from the '50s or '60s, say a '55 Jaguar...that would help the search.
