I am going to raise back up my Thing ( ) and I notched the rear spring plates and need to know if they are Thing only spring plates or the same as Beetle ones so I can put some non-notched ones back on.
thanks for the help,

Interchangeable for the '73 and later Beetle units. Although the Thing plates are a bit thicker.

Try calling you're local VW shops for these!!

71 and 72 spring plates are identical. There wasn't any change in the rear suspension in 73. _________________

I thought the early IRS had the "double" spring plates?! _________________ --- The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at and repair.

IRS Things have their own Spring Plates
pn 181 511 205 (lft) and 181 511 206 (rt)
MAny Bug parts will (fit) on a Thing and vice versa. That does not mean they are the same part. Thing has loads of 68-71 T-2 parts but they can be replace with lighter duty stock beetle parts. There is a huge difference between will they fit and are they the same quality/strength... |

Double spring plates are 68 autostick, and 69-70 Beetle, plus all IRS Type 3s. 71 and later Beetles plus Type 181 used single spring plates. _________________
