I see very little on single throttle body injection on these forums for NA VW. Can single throttle body make as much HP, providing the right plenum and injectors compared to the dual throttle bodies on the Type 1 VW? If the single throttle body will make a much HP, can it be very street able? I am a pretty good fabricator and can not see why it wouldn't work. I am building a 2387 motor with super pro heads and a CB-2300 cam shaft. I know this cam is big and will have very little vacuum. I was thinking a throttle body some where between 50 mm and 65 mm. It just seems to be a lot easier setup. Any input will be greatly appreciated.
I am thinking NA not turbo. |

I went from 50mm ITB throttle bodies, to a single 65mm throttle body.
It sucked. I wished I had never sold my ITB's. I finally went turbo and all was well again.
For N/A, single TB can't touch how great ITB's IMHO. _________________ Eric Allred

Not without a supercomputer and likewise with the fabbing skill. Ideally you need CAD flow programs to optimize airflow through the plenum, so it's balanced to all cylinders. But beyond that, the parts you have chosen would be very difficult to get working properly with a plenum design anyway. 2300 is an all out drag cam, I would not use it on the street even with ITB's. It would be straight up horrible with a single TB, I imagine.
Perhaps you should give more thought to going turbo? _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

heck no. Injection is no different from carburetors as far as manifolds.
An injector allows adjustment to be by computer rather than using jets, but single throttle setups do not lack HP from lack of adjustment, they lack the ability to make useable HP because the manifolding sucks. |

Actually, the answer is yes, but you will lose too much driveability at lower revs due to the length and size of runners for it to be worthwhile. That said, if you get the injectors nice and low and aimed at the valves and set up sequential injection you might get it pretty good (Hint - MAP tends to get thrown off in such a setup.) The best would be a 360 degree design along the lines of the Mexico FI or the type 4 manifold. You might lose a tad off the top end, but might find it is worth it.
You don't need a supercomputer, or even an engineering degree. If you can get all the requisite data for your engine (the hardest is probably an accurate cam profile, but it's pretty good at estimating this,) you can use the optimising feature of Engine Analyser Plus to do all the maths for you.
I'm tempted to try one myself, and might one day. _________________ There has only ever been one man who was perfect, and they nailed Him to a cross. |
