I just have to replace the soft hose between the fluid reservoir and the master cylinder (connects to the hard lines). I know that you generally want to use the braided blue hose but I was wondering if a good high quality/high pressure fuel hose would work just as well. These lines aren't under pressure are they?

But they are not petroleum based fluids. The blue stuff is resistant to the brake fluid. The fuel line may not be.

Don't use regular fuel hose, as brake fluid has a tendency to eat it, leaving chunks that will clog your master cylinder (BTDT got the car that way). If you can't get regular blue hose, Napa sells an orange hose that is silicone based that will work (I know, because I have on my 71 Roadster). It doesn't have the cloth outer wrap, but then it's not a pressure hose. I think they actually list it for transmissions, but it is silcone hose.

Cool, thanks for the help guys. My FLAPS store concluded that "if it works for high pressure gas then it should be fine for brake fluid" Guess I should have known better, thanks for steering me in the right direction!

Most FLAPS don't know $hit about VWs, and little more about regular cars! If you find one who does, give them all your business.

you can purchase that blue hose on CIP1 if you can't find it locally.

That would be putting it mildly.
