This is my 1971 1302 (Super Beetle) which has a single port 1200cc factory installed engine. Notice the engine lid without a set of vents. It doesn't have a padded dash either. It was originally Shantung Yellow, but the P.O. had it painted to dark blue. I kinda like it and I'm sticking with it.. :)

They sometimes refer to this model as "1302A".. "A" means "no fancy options" in German.. :)

Feel free to ask any questions.

Note : The last picture was how it looked before I bought it. Please ignore the crappy hubcaps.. :)

I love it, too..It's a vintage Desmo Roof Rack which I imported from England..Google it, you'll find some pictures. They are perfect for beetles, they seem too high on a flat roof car.

I bet a heavy 1302 is speed demon with 1200 engine.

Good gas mileage must pay off though?

I thought so!

Just made a thread:

By the way, I notice here Beetles referred to often as 1302'big', what does that mean?

I assume a 1200 engine wasn't standard for a 1302? Why would anyone put one in?

1200 is standard thats why this one is a 1302A not a 1302S

It was a European thing I think where taxes related to engine capacity but someone who knows more will have to chime in.

most markets supers were only 1600 but in Europe they could be ordered with a 1200, 1300 and 1600, as 1302A, 1302 and 1302S respectively.
