|
|
I just got my mohair headliner in the mail for my 56 and it looks pretty daunting. I picked up Chris' video on ragtop headliner install and have been studying that. Also checked out John Henry's 57 restore site for some tips. Patience is the key word I keep hearing when doing this operation. I've resto'd the rest of the car and would like to keep going on this. Any tips or words of encouragement would be appreciated, other than "call an upholsterer" Thx _________________ "One man can make a difference...Jesus did." |

I did mine myself for the first time' thing look great for about a week. then the glue failed. didn't do it right or something. from what i have heard if you've never done it before buy two headliners. so when you F up you got spare parts.
I know the tricks now and my second one will look much better _________________ Jeremy

I thought about it,, but then read some threads about it and decided to let the interior cat do the install.. Only because I read that some of the kits left a small gap on the sides.. The interior fella custom makes the headliner with the mohair material and guarantees no gaps.. Post some pics.. Kuddos for you for gettin it done.. I had my pussy fingers on, and didnt want to attack that one..
*But I did install my canvas cover.. _________________ Valentine, Ray J Sr.

I did mine and it took longer than I thought....the back piece that surrounds the oval window is the first and hardest part. I checked out john henrys site to clue me in on the process and steps. Once you get the oval piece installed, the other parts will seem like a breeze. I have a few pics of mine in my gallery you can PM if you have any specific questions.

thx for the responses. Knaggy, do you remember how many support rods you had on that install? I'm assuming If I had enough for a hardtop I should have plenty for a ragtop?? In the video I watched the guy was hosing the top down with the spray glue and claimed that once dry you never see it thru the headliner material. Also talked about using plenty of padding to make the curves and transitions flow smoothly. I'll check out the pics in your gallery. _________________ "One man can make a difference...Jesus did." |

You should have enough Rods for the ragtop type. The padding takes a little time, and that area is where the art comes in as you want enough to fill and transition but not too much where it's difficult to tuck and fit the material. Ww west makes a kit but I just bought my own batting material and cut the areas needed myself.. |
