Just picked up a 65 notch which looks to be on a 70s IRS pan, I bought replacement rear pans from ISPwest to fix the rust problems, however I'm wondering if anywhere sells a replacement piece for the cross section under the rear seat.

Also I know I'm going to have to fab up some motor mounts to make the IRS setup work on the earlier body. Does any one have a link that would give more insight on that?

thanks for any help!
-Paul

You will have to weld new metal to the bottom of your existing bulkhead or fab a whole new bulkhead. Your Welcome! Twisted Evil

this car is beige, I'll try and get some pictures up soon. My main concern is just going to be how to mount up the engine since the IRS setup is a bit different from how the original swing axle setup would work.

I'm guessing you're talking about the rear engine hanger and its associated supports at the body?

yes sir, sorry I'm terrible with the technical side of things haha. But where the mustache bar would connect will interfere with the cooling inlet behind the rear window.

What I did, was use a set of 71 Squareback hangers, flipped them over, and side for side. Then I trimmed off about 1 inch of the lower air duct, and added a new piece of metal leaving about a 3/8ths gap at the very rear end of the piece for a water drain. I also trimmed the sheet tin on the sides back about 1 inch as well. This allowed the IRS Squareback engine hanger brackets (mounts) to be welded to the body. If you still have the 65's rear engine mount, use it to help locate the engine into the body (that's what I did). I spaced the rubber mounts up a little in the hangers, so IF I ever needed to replace them, I could. Note, I left the original 65 rear engine hanger and mount in place, as it doesn't hurt anything to be there. I also used a floor jack to help set the height of the engine, putting it where I wanted it.
Here's a couple of pics that might help.

Please note, that this was done back in November of 2002, and I haven't had any issues with it since it was done. I hope this helps.
