| When I installed the distributor drive gear it turned on me. I need to pull and get it installed right. Problem, I have tried to use all sorts of items to get it pulled out. I ordered the drive gear puller, tried it last night and can not get the gear out. Is there something I am not doing to get it out? |

If you have the engine on a 'rotating' stand, position it with the dist. 'hole' pointing down. Take the puller and twist it back and forth will pulling down on the drive gear. Having the engine 'upside down' helps to keep the shims from falling into the engine case when the gear does come out. Good luck. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 45 yrs - Plan B: '72 Ghia

Did you install the mechanical fuel pump? The pump pushrod rides the cam on the distributor drive gear. It will hold the drive gear down until you remove the whole assembly. I think you may need to remove the spacer/stand that the pump sits on. _________________ AshMan40

| just turn the crank a little while you pull it,it should pop up.If ya dont have a engine stand,"glue' the washers to the distributor drive with white lithium grease (engine assembly lube) if ya dont have any buy some at the parts store, its as handy as a pocket on a shirt... |

Once you do get it out be careful not to loose the washer/shims down inside the engine or you'll be splitting your case to get them out. Personally, if the gear isn't too far off I would just leave it. _________________ Joey

No timing changes needed.
Incorrectly indexed distributor drive gear means location of #1 spark plug wire may not be at the expected "clock position" around the distributor cap. But once you connect the plug wires to their correct location around the cap timing is set the same way.
If you have a vacuum can there may also be clearance issues as it may now be hitting something. _________________ AshMan40
