Did you consider mentioning where the H**L is Hollister?

I seriously doubt that people from other parts of the world are going to be interested in attending a Syncro event in the United States - especially on short notice. Hollister is where Syncro De Mayo takes place annually, so I think most Syncro owners know where it is. If not, one can always do a simple Google search. |

The Overland Rally was a Blast!
I had a chance to ride with Bill on the way up Truck Hill.
Unfortunately the Driver Rear Outer CV Joint broke about 20 yards from the top. Bill suggested I get out at that point, which I did. He then informed me that he would not be able to stay stationary while I went for help, his brakes and leg muscles would not hold.. that created urgency, and I deffered to his greater experience as a driver.
He then tried to back down, but drifted rear towards passenger side on the way down.. After that a few more bad decisions were made, and some poor communication on my part as the spotter, resulting in Bill laying the van down on the Driver Side. Nobody was hurt, After removing the driver rear axle, Bill drove the van home..
Here is a video of us going up the hill, and a couple shots of the aftermath. Bill surmises he had created the CV problem by shimming his rear springs too much. He will be upgrading to 930CV's to avoid the issue in the future.

I havent asked him how he got his seatbelt to release at that angle, but he crawled out the sunroof.

And just to give you some idea of Bills love of cold drinks, diet coke is his favorite, when I got in the Van he asked me to hold his 64oz drink, which I did, even when I got out of the van after we broke the axle.
Guess what the first thing Bill said after exiting the Van.. Got my drink?
Oh, and on the way up , I asked him his secret to making it up truck hill, he said, "tall bumpers", as I nodded in agreement...

I had pictures of Bill turned over on FaceBook just after it happened.
Thank goodness he was OK.
The van is repairable, but will be a ton of work.
Time for 930 halfshafts!

i made a little video doing the obstacle course with my gopro sitting shotgun. i took it easy on the course as the last time i did it i bent a rim and broke a CV. it was hotter than hell and i had no desire to wrench in the dirt.
there's even a cameo of Bill on his way back from Truck Hill. |

The recovery class went to it. There was no shortage of winches and skilled personnel.
I believe they used one winch to anchor the nose, and another thru a block to right the vehicle.
It took hours. After they pulled him to the top, Bill drove back to camp on his own power. |
