|
|
I have done a lot of searching but have yet to get the specific answers im looking for. I have been on the site for a while and have restored a 73 beetle thats been completed for about 3 years. I recently traded my 56 ford f100 for a 66 notchback in pretty good shape and just needs to be finished. The motor is a built 1776 with dual carbs and the car is lowered on porsche cookie cutter wheels and 4 wheel disc brakes. The car runs and drives great and only needs paint and interior to be complete.
Now the questions. The car has no glove box guts and the latch is missing and the door has no way to latch. Do they make the latch piece aftermarket as well as the glovebox or do i need to find an old one?
Next the rear trunk will not latch and if it did im not sure how to open it. Im not sure where the release is which may be the problem it just may need to be reset.
Lastly, whoever did the disc brake setup did not install an e brake and i would like to put one on the car as my wife will also be driving it. I have seen porsche rear brake kits with the ebrake but i may only need the cables and handle or i may also need the calipers. Does anyone know where i can source just those parts without buying everything.
Im sure ill have other questions along the way thanks in advance. |

the ebrake kits are 'ebrake included' or not. the ebrake option was more money.
find a used glovebox and latch.
the trunk release latch is in the b pillar of the driver's door frame. _________________ 64 No'back Speedster "Pearl"

Better to put the stock rear drum brakes back on the car. My stock 69 square with stock disc/drum brakes stops Good and will lock up all 4 wheels if necessary. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

If this is the red notch on the east coast by way of Arizona.. then it doesnt have ebrake cables, but should have 4 wheel disc. I havent heard of a retro fit kit.
That is a pretty nice ride. I hope you got a deal on it. About two years ago I was bidding on it on Ebay |

Someone posted an add on disc brake ebrake kit. It was an add on mechanical caliper. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

I think that car... above... was for sale on craigs in VA about a yr ago, guy wanted like 4 or 5 K for it. I know some people who tried to call and email the seller, the seller never responded.
Looks nice!
Good luck... DRIVE IT! _________________ 1968 Notchback |

I got an email from someone on here who had the striker for the glovebox and the cardboard so I'm set on that now I just need to mess with the trunk latch and figure out the parking brake. The guy I got it from says the brakes came off a Porsche and that I may need Porsche cables I'm going to pull a wheel off and see what'd there and may post a picture for some advice. |

thanks for the response that is what i was hoping to find. I dont have cables or an ebrake handle in the car for that matter so i will have to get them as well. I know on that website it talks about beetle cables can this kit be used on notchback cables as well? are the cables the same? and what about the handle itself can i use a beetle handle or are the cable and handle different between type 1 and type 3? Thanks again guys I may pull the car in the shop tonight and look at whats going on back there and post pics. |

I think I've seen that very car here in the forums. I believe the PO bought it about a year ago, put new tires on it, fixed the carbs, and did a couple of other things to it. I don't remember seeing him post much after the first month or so of ownership. His biggest issue was getting it to pass inspection, I think. If I remember right, I think he paid something like 2800 for it. I think he had a farm in VA or something (sorry, but I've slept since then). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I pulled the car in the garage and took off one of the back wheels and checked out the rear brakes. There isnt a provision for an e-brake so i guess im going to need to get different calipers. I looked up porsche 914 calipers and they look like they would work just thought I would see what you all thought.

i've lived in hilly country and have never used an ebrake. if you are worried about her, teacher to turn the tires into the hill. _________________ 64 No'back Speedster "Pearl"
