Throttle pedal has become alot harder to push and does not want to come back to an idle position. Has anyone else had this problem. It has been extremely cold here and I am thinking it is related somehow to the throttle body assembly. I've already checked the cable and it seems to be okay. Any help would be appreciated.

OK..... It's an automatic.....
If the cable is indeed free and not frayed or binding, I would focus on the transmission downshift linkage and the rod to the throttle body.
Specifically is the small clip and spring still on the rod at the throttle body?
Are the various pivot points lubricated and rotating freely?
There is also a spring on the throttle body assembly, wraps around the throttle shaft linkage. In high rust areas those springs can rust and snap.
There is also a long return spring from the throttle body to the intake plenum to assist with throttle return.
All 3 springs are seen in this photo of my 86 as I was disassembling it..... Notice the NJ rust belt rust eating everything?
FWIW.... That long spring in the left of the photo? It was badly stretched and rusty. I tried many "common" off the shelf return springs..... Too strong, too weak..... TK sells the proper spring..... Just right! Thanks Terry!!!!

I had the same problem. Replaced the cable and sleeve and it worked like a dream. The problem might also be at the linkage on top of the transmission, not in the engine compartment. My guess though that even if the cable looks fine, it's probably not. _________________ 89 Westy 2.1 Auto |

Is it a problem 1st thing in the morning after a long cold night with below freezing temps? If it warms up above freezing later in the day it works?
Then I would be thinking water inside the cable sheath and freezing.
it could just be a combination of a little bit of everything at once. |
