Are you wanting wire with standard VW Color Codes or can it be say all white red black green etc..?
Beldon Instrument cable is nice wire. But expensive unless you can buy it scrap from some company wiring stuff it's so expensive that it makes the ready made harness look like a deal though. Something like this one would do it! What year is your car? _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

ignore advice above

Klein 1005

do not use brittle black terminal boards with panhead screws that vibrate out.
use European terminal boards

do not use thin flimsy split loom to cover wire bundles. it looks good one summer, then crumbles. use spiral wrap. about 4 times as thick as split loom
http://www.vetco.net/catalog/default.php?cPath=534_538
learn how to solder. takes about ten minutes, use the skill all your life.
Weller Pyropen. self igniter lasts six months in daily use, but it's what you need for daily use

| You might check local military surplus stores as well. I used surplus wiring on my mini buggy. There wasn't much in terms of color choices but they had a big selection of gauge sizes. |

Mal evolent pretty much nails it for wire sources.... Only disagreement I have is not to solder because it makes wire to terminal connection brittle AND I will not get into deep discussion over it, I will let you decide on to solder or not to solder..... Get really good pair of ratcheted type crimp tool.. IF you have those $7 "squeezers" from FLAPS go to nearest river and throw them as far as you can out into the water.... Also application of dielectric grease to to wire before inserting in into terminal for crimping will prevent corrosion (in lieu of solder).... And get good quality terminals from reputable wholesaler or retailer, stay from FLAPS cheap chines junk Get packs of 100 from sources like mentioned for wire ...
When ordering wire order many different colors.... Its ok to repeat colors but the less you do the easier project will be... Its easy to identify maybe 2 different circuits with same color of wire but if whole bug/buggy/rail is in same color identifying 30-50 wires ti determind what goes where is a nightmare...
I would prefer these to the Kleins (mentioned above), BUT the Kleins are more than adequate for crimping... It's all about a quality tool... And ratchet style ones with replaceable dies allows crimping different styles of connectors... Insulated terminals takes different style die then non insulated terminal (indenter die)
And more good stuff here...
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=344781
Trying to reuse old harnesses or surplus military or salvage for auto wreckers or "house wires" is not the way to go.... It just replicates what you are trying desperately to replace....
My experience and advice comes for 38 years of making wire connections in telecommunications career, at least half a dozed buggy/bug/rail/hot rod wire projects from ground up and repairs to uncountable number of botched wiring jobs...
Go to Del City and WayTek sites and explore!!!!!!!!!
What we need is good electrical forum here...

Wow. The guy just wanted a line on wire.
You wiring geeks!
I have to admit, I would much rather wire something up than change out a shock. What I've never been able to do is visualize a real neat and orderly layout like some guys manage. For example, I've been thinking about starting from scratch under my hood and laying it all out on a flat piece of acrylic or lexan with the wires all routed thoughtfully and relays mounted in a row and everything labeled. That's originally how I wanted my layout to look, but I ended up with my rats nest. Mainly because I just wanted to get it running.

pull more than you need
tie wrap similar circuits into loose bundles, because
you always need to pull another wire
it is easier to make a big service loop than to extend a short wire
leave room for plugging and unplugging
mark everything _________________ 73 Beetle Baja, Ghia front brakes, Type 3 rear brakes, 2220 ( 94 X 80 ), Weber Progressive, Bosch SVDA, '97 Mustang seats

I ran 3 extra leads to rear of buggy from dash area for future... They are still there but unused, but who knows maybe next week EFI or one goes bad and I have another to replace it with...
Some places if you order is big enough can print "functions" on wires, many KITS already do this... Its a plus when buying a quality harness/wiring kit...
