Hey all,
can pick up a 74 super beetle tranny cheap. Would it fit into a 71 mexican beetle? Swing arm (link and king front end), like a pre 67 american or canadian?
Will the axles and tubes etc swap over? any bolting in issues?

Thanks guys!

It will only fit if you convert your Mex Beetle to IRS.

I highly suggest you to find another swing axle tranny. The conversion from IRS to swing axle is way too much work for what its worth.

after hunting some more i found if the irs tranny has bolted covers both sides (and it does) you can basically swap out (or maybe sourch new) the diff etc parts (if ok) from the old swing into it, set it up and carry on as a swing. Will probably let the tranny shop do it. Might be a pain but the IRS tranny is a fresh rebuild, never in and dirt cheap. Worth futzting with over the winter. considering my reverse has now become not much more than a noise maker. More than likely due to it being totally empty when i bought the car, who knows how long t was driven like that....

This means the IRS gearbox you have is NOT from a 74 Super.
If you want to try to swap your swing axle diff parts into this IRS gearbox, first you must determine if your swing axle diff is 6 bolt or 8 bolt. IRS only used 8 bolt.
