Not sure if this is best here or in Body/paint but guess peps here might have a better eye for a type3,,,
After finding out how to lay stripes with vinyl wrap & knife tape I'm looking to put a set of up & over body stripes on my fasty.
Its Sunburst yellow aka beige so think classic 70's brown & orange will go well, plus the car has a few red accents (air inlet louvers, callipers etc) so like to idea of a say 6-8mm red pin stripe down one side, what do you all think?

Replace the brown with black, lighten the orange. German flag colors.
I was going to tell you to put it on the other side so it isn't a driver distractions, then I looked closer... lol

I'd stick with the period correct colours you have chosen. |

My son was looking at doing that with his T-3 Roadster, but hasn't had any "free" time to work on it this year. He's been busy trying to keep the daily drivers working, so he can get to and from work. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Yes and No to the idea. If painted, I guess yes. If vinyl strip, then yes with qualifications.
There is a Beetle in our area which had stripes done Herbie style with vinyl. It looked great until they were tired of it. When they removed it, it had left a shadow on the paint from "sun burn" So that is why I also say no. Knowing how AU can be a bit warm, it would not be a joy if you want to take it off and see a ghost of the stripe still. _________________ Ossipon

DOH! I just remember boiling in Melbourne and melting in Darwin. So figured NZ had similar joy. _________________ Ossipon

Just Googled this - Notice the last sentence !!!
"What is the weather like in New Zealand year round?
Mean annual temperatures range from 10 °C (50 °F) in the south to 16 °C (61 °F) in the north. The coldest month is usually July and the warmest month is usually January or February. Generally there are relatively small variations between summer and winter temperatures."
Where I am in Queensland I don't think we EVER get that low !!! |

Thanks all,
From you tubing vinyl looks way easier that painting & as pointed out can be taken off, car is garaged & not driven often but good point about shadows if removed.
Getting some prices for materials from a local shop, will see how it adds up. _________________ '71 Type 3 Fastback, Sunburst Yellow, Lowered on Riviera's.

When I got my squareback, I removed all of the PO's stickers from the glass. UV burned shadows in the glass. I don't want to sticker it back up so I'm hoping UV will fade them away eventually.
