Just got a '66 Squareback. Have some rust in my pans, not terrible but some of it is deep. What are my options?
I'm thinking of maybe painting it with Navel Jelly and then possibly coating with fiberglass if the bad spots.
Good plan or not?
Thanks

You could either order up full pan halfs (Gerson pan halfs), or get some ISP West pan sections to weld in.
You could try the naval jelly, but I don't know how it'll work. Most of us either pull the body, and sandblast, or replace them, or wire brush the hell out of them, and use Master Series to seal them up.
I hope this helps. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I've replaced pan halves in beetles and just did a pan 1/4 in my Fasty. I can safely say that you'll never regret doing the job properly. I'd stay away from fiberglass but I've had good luck with any number of rust treatments and "encapsulators" after a good wire brush and cleaning. -assuming there's good metal left to save.
Good luck! |
