Our Odetta was stolen from Vancouver WA (5 miles from Portland) on Sunday morning, March 6. She is very unique with a South African grill and custom Adventure Wagon interior. If you see her, please contact local authorities.

That is a Taifun grill and is much more unusual/rare than the SA grill. Shocked
I hope you get your van back in one piece quickly.

Odetta, our 1984 Vanagon was stolen from our apartment complex in Vancouver WA on Sunday, March 6. She has a South African grill, which makes her very unique. She has a custom Adventure Wagon interior, and stickers from all over the world. She had Colorado plates on her when she was taken.
She has a custom paint job, white tin top, black stripe, and fading light blue bottom. She has interior curtains and some Oregon and Hawaii university flags in the window.
She has a Buddah and a Fillmore (from Cars) super glued to the dash.
She has taken us coast to coast and is where my fiancé proposed to me. This is more than just a vehicle to us.

I briefly considered a similar paint scheme for my Westy. I wanted it to resemble a magpie. I hope your van returns quickly and safely.

I'm very sorry to hear that your Vanagon got stolen.

It looks like Samba user seanjenn's old van. If it is the same one it's rare indeed, a European market '84 imported by a German mechanic in Denver before Sean bought it if I remember correctly.

With that three-tone paint scheme, Taifun grill and SA lower grill, it should be easier to spot than most.

Best of luck with the search and I hope it comes back to you.

HOLY SHIP! That's a Taifun lower grill too. Shocked Shocked
The SA lower grills are flatter and wrap under and past the turn signals.

Ill keep an eye out in Eugene.
Thieves rarely add fuel to stolen vehicles in the PNW. If you are up to looking for it, map out the areas that the amount of fuel would take it and post stolen pics on poles, markets and local Police departments, mechanics and wrecking yards.
Good luck

Just noticed that myself. It's definitely the same Vanagon. See the original descriptions about 2/3 down here:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4323701

And here, where Sean gives more interesting info and I post about nearly buying it...It was a steal at $1500 or so.

Gotta get that Vanagon back! It's part of Samba history!

And wait! Original price was 1500? We bought her for way more, and still feel like we cheated them! Please help us get her back! We'll take her back to CO to take Sean and Jenn to lunch!

Keeping my eyes peeled out my way, and I'm on the highways a lot too. Love the look of the van, surely unique.

On a side note, I hope this serves as inspiration/a reminder for those who haven't yet, to install a hidden kill switch of some kind... at the least. I hate reading about stolen vans!

Will keep a lookout here on the 90 through Idaho. FYI, we have a camera on the interstate that reads license plates. Perhaps contact the highway patrol office on Prairie Avenue - I think they would logically control it. If you can get a stolen car report there the camera looks for plates and would automatically notifiy them as it passed.

This is why I laboriously install a steering wheel club even when I just go for coffee. Hope it gets back. If I see it locally, I will immediately disable it as only a fellow Vanagon owner could....

Alerting so many people is great!

But giving out personal information on the WWW may not be so great.......

Maybe the OP should get a "disposable" Go Phone or similar he/she can use for the recovery efforts?
Post that # in the various forums so anyone who sees it can notify #911 as well as the owner via a call or a text?
Maybe.....

Have the GO Phone number forwarded to both of your personal phones? (If you can do that on a limited function phone? )

Give the phone to the next hapless Washington Resident who finds himself in a similar situation......
