Hello everyone, great forum here! I have been reading many threads in here before I posted with some great information regarding issues similar to my problem. However, I am still havent found the answer. I have seen a lot regarding the solenoid but I don't think thats my problem.

My bug was running great when all of a sudden it would stall out if left in idle. The only way to keep the engine running is to keep my foot on the gas and rpms up. After taking a look at in with my father, we found a leak in a small fuel hose (pictures below). My dad seems to think the bug wasnt getting enough pressure with this leak causing it to stall out.

I have attached 2 pictures and circled the small hose in red.

Here comes the questions: Laughing Smile
Would this leak cause the problem for the stalling? Whats the best way to get the clamps off the hose? What size hose fits this? 7mm? What kind/type of hose should I get to replace it? The hose pictured is of great quality and I'd like to replace it with something similar as I know there is a lot of pressure going through this little hose. I've read of the "German Supply" website and "Airhead" parts website.

Any additional recommendations would be awesome!
Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

I had almost something similar in my '75. It idled rough and I traced it to the vacuum line going to the idle air control located on the left side under the air vents. The hose had been rubbing against the fan shroud and wore a hole through it. I replaced it and all the other crusty vacuum lines and it purred like a kitten afterwards.

Thanks for the reply man. After digging deeper into these forums, I have seen a couple similar posts that suggest a pinhole leak like mine in the fuel line with allow air to get it and stall the car out. I am assuming this is the problem. I just need to figure out the size of the hose and what type to buy. From what I have read, I am guessing this little hose is 7mm?

Can anyone elaborate or corroborate?

7mm ID hose is the correct size. I did buy cloth braided, some swear by it, some don't. It's up to you. Replace all the hoses and see what happens. Check the rubber boot from the AFM as well to see if it is cracked.

You really need to replace all of the fuel lines with the good stuff. You can just cut off those hose clamps as they will also get replaced.

I am not a big fan of the cloth covered fuel lines, but I guess some people like them.

If it runs fine at higher rpm I'd bet it is getting too much air. Check your lines especially the breather tube from behind the oil fill tube up to the air intake.
