|
|
OK i have finally acquired enough parts to start working on rebuilding my rail.
Last winter I installed a fresh rebuilt 1776 into my rail and took it out for one trip to the coast and got home and parked it.
My goal for this project is to have a reliable and comfortable mid travel rig that can handle the steep dunes of the Oregon coast and the rough desert terrain at the Juniper Dunes in Eastern Washington.
OK, here is the rail as it sits right now
hear is the power plant I'm planning on running. 05 2.2 Ecotec 30,000 miles
A specific questions i have on the ecotec.
Can i remove the cam driven power steering unit off of the back of the motor. Dose somebody make a block off plate?
Things I still need Adapter plate fly wheel, 3x3 rear trailing arms, IRS transmission, radiator.................
the 1776 motor is for sale or trade if anyone is interested. |

There are block off plates available, but I do not know who has them.

Looks good, will be an entirely new driving experience with the ecotec! The power steering pump mounting surface is flat, so it's super easy to make your own block off plate if you have some scrap aluminum or something laying around. My ecotec swap can be seen in the link in my signature, and I have pics of the block off plate in there.
Good luck with your build! _________________ My Ecotec Sandrail Build

OK, Update. Picked up a 3 rib transaxle today and it came with a 4 seater frame. not sure if I'm going to use it but I could probably sell the frame and recoup some cash.
any know how long this three rib will hold up to the ecotec?? |

I just did a eco swap in my mid travel baja 6 months ago- it has a later three rib in it also and i have put it thru hell in the dirt, not holding anything back in the whoops , hill climbs with buried rocks, ect and close to 8000ecotec installed miles on it now. i don't abuse it on the street - have read they will hold up 190 hp with some considered driving! but I believe what you have pictured is the very first year 3 rib(acorn nuts around drive flange) witch only has type 1 internals in it! check into it I have a bad memrory! and sand is somewhat forgiving....... |
