Uniballer I wish wolfsburg west did carry them. They only carry the light grey. I need Dove grey for my Dove Blue Double-Cab.

Go to RAL chart(universal color chart) and pick a couple shades of grey. You can buy ANY RAL color through powder distributors. OR you can have a batch specially made for around $375 for 5 pounds which will do almost every dove grey part on the planet.

By looking at the chart online,http://ralcolor.com/ it looks like Pigeon blue is as close as you can get, with Distant blue a close second. I'm sure the shades vary in person.

Don't really know what all the codes below really mean but I'll just take them to the shop I have my caps at and let them figure it out.

RAL = RAL 5014
RAL-RGB = 096-111-140
RAL-HEX = #606E8C
Color = Pigeon Blue

It is that blue huh?? There are a lot of greys on that chart in the 7000's. I thought maybe 7040?

I was looking at 7040 as well but most of the picture I've seen seem to favor the blue more than the grey, well at least to me they do. Then again it can be the way my monitor displays the shade. These are a few pictures I've found online so far to compare. What do you think?

This one seems more grey than blue.

Wolfsburg West sells dove gray in a can. Maybe you can give that to the powder coater and tell him to match it?

Already on that Smile , I have two cans now and sprayed a part to take to the shop with me today. The plan is to take the painted part and a few of the RAL codes and see what they can come up with. I'll post up the results as soon as I can.

Good plan then! I used the WW paint on my hub caps and they look great on my freshly painted dove blue panel. Also bought an extra can of paint as I'm sure once I get on the road there will be a lot of touch up necessary Shocked

The Pigeon blue looks closest. It's only a bit too blue in my mind. I don't the WW swatch is really that close to the hubcap.

Take the hub cap to your local powder coater. They will have a color chip strip and will have all sorts of colors. I just had my gas tank done locally and he had a color that was all in german and found the perfect blue grey.

Caps are at the shop already ( http://decometalfinishing.com/ ), they were there to get plated but plans have changed. I'll be leaving to go there in a few minutes since I have some other parts that need coating.

FlusteredBust, good comparison picture but color is the strip R-side of the hub cap? where did you find that strip?

That right hand strip was taken by sampling the color of the OG hubcap with a photo editing program I have. When I do that, there is some variation depending on where I place the eye dropper selection tool pointer on the photo, so I can't say it's absolutely exact to original. But then again, there was probably slight variations every time they mixed a new batch of paint. The RGB (red, green, blue) Code ends up being (103, 120, 135) which I just discovered you can use to get a paint match here...

http://www.easyrgb.com

Unfortunately, and this doesn't seem to match automotive paint codes. The RAL chart actually has the RGB codes on it in the second column. Pigeon Blue is 096-111-140. You can duplicate it over at easyrgb.

I did read that some paint shops can take the rbg color and match it.

So I took my color sample in and they say the can match it pretty darn close. The will shoot a couple of scrap parts to test first and see how close it comes to my sample.
I'll report back in a couple of weeks with results.

Not even close, the plug was the attempted dove grey. Here's the radio delete painted with WW Dove Grey for comparison.

Dropped them back off at the body shop to get painted instead. Oh well.

So I am sure, in this photo:
Is the cap on the left Light Grey and the cap on the right Dove Grey?
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Both of these are original caps.

In person:
The cap on the left looks tan with a sort of greenish tint to it in person.
The cap on the right is a darker grey.
Neither have that "primer" look of the reproduction caps:
