|
|
so for those of you who are following my "rescued a fat chick today" thread, you already know. for those NOT in the know, i removed this old ECU\harness out of my 71 square, after finding too many breaks....
then, i installed THIS one, pulled from a known good running car, but my buddy Nate forgot the year. Is THIS the proper harness for my 71? any issues that anybody forsees with using THIS ECU?
any help\info about this ECU would be GREATLY appreciated... _________________ Aircooled VW: more expensive than CRACK!

AFAIK a very few late 1972 California Emissions cars appeared with an "E" brain and system, but that chart is misleading. "E" systems appear on cars built after August 1972, except for the Cali emissions ones I mentioned above.
And you are correct that C and D pieces can usually be mixed with no ill effects, but the 1972 D system with the dual vacuum advance distributor doesn't run right with C parts- the lone exception being the MAP sensor. 1971- 72 cars actually came with a "D" MAP, but the C was designated as the factory approved replacement for all D systems. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Didn't the 72's also get the 5 pin TVS? Instead of the regular 4 pin vesion used in 70 and 71. I thought that was part of the "E" upgrade. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

If it has an "E" system, it has the five pin TVS. No "D" systems had it. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Now I've always heard you have to match the pressure sensor, and control unit part number suffixes. I have a 71 square that the PO swaped in a 73 engine and FI, so I have an E brain in the car. I've found that if I run it with the E pressure sensor, the car runs okay, but feels no where near as powerful as when I have a C sensor on it. The mid range accelleration just feels gutless. I had a recent running problem in the car, so I double checked the FI components (I have the dealer "traffic light" tester), as a precaution, and I got a red light on the pressure sensor. At the time I had forgotten I was running the earlier sensor, so I assume that's the reason the red light came on for that test. As it turned out I had a bad distrubtor cap, that would cause a mis under load. So once again everyone remember, blame the FI system last, it's probably an ignition or charging system problem making the car run poorly! _________________ I will never lie, but sometimes the truth changes.
