I dug this pic up today to get my battery squared away before i start driving my 53 around....this is a late split..early oval battery cable holder. Not too sure how this is supposed to mount to the pan. I guess the hole bolts up right behind the battery to a stud on the top side of the pan towards the luggage area..then what..i guess it just sits there and keeps the wire in place( right behind the topside of the battery) Also, to top things off, i would need a battery cover maybe or at least a strap if the factory covers wont cover the new style 6v battery? Any thoughts? If this wire holder isnt needed..i at least need the strap to hold the battery in place..i cant find a clear pic of the one i would need and how to mount it since im in between a split and an oval in year model

you can be incredibly helpful at times. thank you
thread sidebar: when i was about 14, i took an interest in learning to surf. i wanted to embrace the lifestyle.
one day we were hanging out at the sea wall, and i whipped out a cigar.
this needs to be put into context. there was an old guy, Jim Ventry, who would go surfing in a farmer john wetsuit and put his stogie up one of the legs. as soon as he came out of the water, he'd reach up, retrieve said cigar, and jamb it between his teeth.
so what could be cooler than emulating "the Old Man of the Sea" - as was written across his back in somewhat water resistant tape.
so i'm puffing away on this thing and someone says "hey Sid, here comes your father" and no sooner, dad comes driving by giving me 'the Look."
when i get home that night, he calmly says to me: "don't be one of the poophead surfers." that was it.
but over the years, that's come back to me in a variety of situations.
so i guess my point is: be who you are and don't follow what someone else thinks is "cool."
it's really easy to belittle someone because they wear different sneakers than your clique, or comb their hair differently, or, heaven forbid, don't know all the same things as me. but if i spend my energy chasing around the big fish in the little pond, sort of like two puppies when they first meet, when will i have time to be myself?
ps: the Wilson book is out of my budget, but i appreciate the link. |

That book is not rare nor particularly valuable.

Glad to help. Always shop around before dropping $200 on a book. Very few VW books published in the last few decades sell for that kind of money. _________________ .
