Hi, As I was just having a relaxing weekend, some freaky Idea stuck my brain.
Many syncro owners have felt that the approach angle needs to be a bit more.
My following imagination might give you some sleepless nights.
My imagination,
By shuffling the front end parts we get shorter synco + good approach angle .
What can be done .
1.cut the front which includes front door hinges, Dash & inside cross member.
2.Bring the front end closer to stay rod.
3.cut the wind shield frame just above the H/L where the slope starts.
Make sure the cut frame can carry dash & all it’s attachments.
4.weld the frame to the roof aligned to the centre of the wheel.
5 Same front doors by closing their arches. No need of sliding door.
6. Rotate the steering Box to your requirement.
I will leave it to you now. Your contribution to my imagination can take the idea further.
I think it can be done if someone has the time & a spare body
Here, important mechanical parts are unchanged
My skill in Microsoft paint(please overlook my not so good drawing).

Oh, this idea is so wrong on so many fronts.
Besides losing the utility of the Van..... You will end up with something akin to this!

Sorry, I can't. Your drawing reminds me too much of the G-wagen:

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth
The short wheelbase, butt over the front wheels, and panoramic views are what make a Vanagon so brilliant. While I always appreciate imagination, this appears to be a mini-van conversion.

I like the look of it, reminds me of the Fridolin! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Type_147_Kleinlieferwagen
But if I were going with a non-forward control vehicle, i would go with a Land Rover 110 or similar. Put a pop top on it and it would be a nice camper. Forward control allows for a lot of space in the same foot print. Larger tires and a little bit of suspension gain some approach/departure angles without any body modification. _________________ 1986 Canadian Syncro Westy TDI - 1989 Syncro Single Cab - 2001 Audi S4 - 1981 VW Caddy ABA - 1980 VW Caddy EV - 1973 VW T-181 |
