I'm putting all new coolant hoses in my 91 Westy. Does anyone have any recommendations for which type, brand, of hose clamps work the best? |

I like the spring type clamps for hoses. ring clamps leave gaps where the screw is. I would check the usual vendors. Measure the size of clamps needed so you can make a single order, otherwise shipping will suck.
Check out midwesty, a vw gathering in Wisconsin. I am just an hour from Dubuque. If your close another van in the area is always a bonus! _________________ Although I got a funny message from the Porsche guys, it read, "what a mighty ship that you must sail"
....has anyone else received that?

I just replaced all mine. I went to a local "House of Hose" outlet and purchased these?
Not cheap, but great, even clamping force. _________________ 1987 Syncro Westfalia Hightop - NAHT

Search for a recent post by member "Kalispell569" (not exactly sure of the numbers in his screen name). He posted measurements and OEM part numbers for all of the coolant hose clamps needed. _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |

I highly recommend that you stick with the stock spring clamps. I installed all new coolant hoses several years ago and used new, high quality screw clamps on nearly half of the hoses. They are not cheap! Every single screw clamp has leaked with the changing weather and required me to torque them down tighter. I have gone through this on the road three or four times! My stock spring clamps have not leaked once. But, like Dave said, "There is something very emotionally satisfying about tightening down a screw clamp". And they only look new and shiny for a short while. |
