|
|
Had a problem with my '78 FI Westy yesterday. The Bus was driven around a bit during the day on some errands, mostly in heavy stop and go traffic. The Bus ran all right until the evening when the engine started to miss and eventually stalled. The Bus had been idling for around 10 minutes when this happened.
The engine seemed extremely hot afterwards, definitely seems to have overheated.
Now the Bus starts but doesn't idle. It will just barely stay running if I hold the wiper arm in the AFM open but still misses and splutters badly.
All the vacuum lines seem OK. Checked all the plug wires too and they're all attached securely. The rotor and the distributor cap are in perfect condition too.
I'm wondering how the problem appeared so suddenly after the Bus had been running OK all day? _________________ '78 Westfalia '63 RHD Beetle '62 Fiat 1100 |

| Can you test the fuel volume to see if the pump is able to pump 1 liter of fuel in 30 seconds? |

Have a look at the points, is the plastic block that rubs on the distributor cam intact?, is the gap OK? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

check wiring to the injectors too.
The overheating may be secondary to an underlying problem. |

The Bus has pertronix ignition. _________________ '78 Westfalia '63 RHD Beetle '62 Fiat 1100 |

It's time to test-swap the points & condenser for the Pertronix.
You kept them in the glove box, right? |
