Right now, our front table top is wedged behind the driver's seat and the galley cabinet. This works for the table top. It doesn't fly out on hard left turns. But... I can't push the seat back to the last stop. The "wedge it in place as best you can" idea seems so hokey. So not German. ;)
What is/was the OEM solution to this problem? Is there a table Zen master trick I don't know about? Am I just s*** out of luck? _________________ Lord, give me coffee to change the things I can change, and wine to accept the things I can't change. |

many of us have different solutions.
sometimes I stow it under the rear bench.
some people put the front table in the back and leave the larger at home.
you can mount the table base to the inside of the small door below the sink. and lift that off to use in front if need be.
mom tucks it between the mattress and the PS side wall.
others have made a mount up under the head banger.
I've seen one that hung on clips on the face of the fridge door.
my favorite is to move the front table base to the PASS seat pedestal
and I sometimes leave it in set up behind the pass seat _________________

That pretty much points me in possible ways to move. The table isn't used very often, but when it is used, it earns its keep. If I knew a better place to keep it. ;) _________________ Lord, give me coffee to change the things I can change, and wine to accept the things I can't change. |

could always bury it in the closet.
or make it part of the closet
https://www.vanagonhacks.com/2015/02/front-table-to-cabinet-door-mod/
or Jed's solution.
which mom's 86 came with a DIY mount there in the late 90's

I used to jam mine between the cushions of the top bunk, it never fell down.
the leg also, was put up following the corner of the upper mattress, that I think is still up there, the front table was put in storage a few years ago as we never use it. _________________ markswagen {mobile mechanic} san diego area all early VW's cared for.

I think the OEM solution was to put under the rear bench. _________________ "Jo Ann" - '83.5 Westfalia EJ22e w/Peloquin |

Brilliant! I'm gonna reverse mine ASAP.
This is also a great idea. With some hinges that you could lift the table up and out of, it would still be a functional table top when needed.

Mine fits there like it was designed for it…a little tilt to get it under the back of the seat and it rests on top of the heater enclosure. _________________ Currently -> Frida: 87 Tizian Red (mostly) Vanagon GL Westfalia w/ 2.0L ABA conversion

the stock fridge door hinges are 'open at the top'
you can just lift it off.

We store our front table flipped on top of the rear table. We have a small gauge shock cord that loops around both tables to keep them together. I like the cabinet door solution, but you only get one chance to get it right.
edit: we leave the leg in place. We use the plastic bags like you get at the grocery store as small trash bags that we hang off the leg. Very handy.

Yeah. I replaced my rear heater with a similarly sized storage cubby. The table fits perfectly on top and I use velcro straps to hold the leg against the kick panel under the bench seat too.
Since I rarely need things from under the bench, including the front table, it's out of sight and out of mind. _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |

Now that sounds like a better OEM solution. 'Course that still leaves the arm looking for an OEM home...
Given the stuff currently under our back seat, implementing it may be a challenge. Or a hint to re-stow some stuff... :D _________________ Lord, give me coffee to change the things I can change, and wine to accept the things I can't change. |
