spark to plugs, gas to combustion chamber. i unplugged the cylinder head sensor and ran ruff, so i tuned up best i could with engine not running. then nothing untill i plugged sensor back in and then it will only run if i give it just the right amount of gas, and dies under a load or gas flow changes. after a few tries it wont even fire. unless i unplug (or plug in) the sensor then it will try to start one to three time, then it wont. I dont know much about F.I. system any advice would be much help. Thank you for your time Walter Dartt.

P.S. the sensor was not plugged in befor i removed engine and it ran just fine. I think

the PO probably tweaked things to make it run rather than fix it right. I don't think there is going to be a quick fix here. We can collectively get you thru it. How good a mechanic are you in general?

These are good places to start reading. Homework is required if you want to get thru it.

Sounds like you are either too rich or too lean or maybe both, lean while starting and too rich once it hits a few times.. A vacuum leak would cause a lean problem while being too rich could be caused by a faulty TSII sensor or wiring for the same. Do you have all FI your grounds hooked up? Does the fuel pump run when you open the door in the AFM while the ignition is on?

So it keeps running when you hold it in the start position and stops when the key is in the run position at the ignition switch?

Sounds like an electrical problem.

1. Try to remote start it from the starter if you have one. If it does start you might have an ignition switch issue.

2. Make sure the double relay is correctly plugged in to the FI wiring harness

3. Inspect the FI wiring harness for bad wires that might be grounding. Is the FI wire plugged into the ignition coil? You should have one white wire (they are actually all white) that plugs into the coil. I can't remember if it's the positive or negative side. Check bentley.

4. Make sure all your vacuum hoses are property connected. http://ratwell.com/technical/VacuumHoses.html

Here is how you troubleshoot the double relay...

as indicated by the above Samba members - the ignition switch may be bad or you have an AFM / double relay issue. Here is why.

When the key is turned to start, the fuel pump gets its power from the starter circuit. When you turn the key to run, the fuel pump gets its power from the fuel injection system. There are points in the AFM that make contact when the door is opened. The electricity goes out through the plug in the back of the AFM to the double relay, which turns the fuel pump on. So, the problem can be the ignition switch (common failure), the points in the AFM (common failure), the plug left off or coming off the AFM (common failure), or the double relay (common failure).

Does it run rough when you give it gas? Does it continue running once warmed up?

Could be a vacuum leak that has developed.

Make sure the throttle cable is hooked up properly.

Have you tried increasing the idle speed?

I would check the fuel pressure and see what it says. You may be gravity feeding in the run position and need more throttle to keep it going.

Tain't one, if you fuel pressure isn't correct you most likely need a new fuel pressure regulator.
