| Can anyone tell me if a big nut reduction box from a 1973 brazilian bus is the same thing as a big nut German box ? I'm looking at a BA code complete transmission that was removed from a 73 brazilian bus and would like to know if it would be worth buying for my 62 bus |

Doubt it. Get images of the transaxle where the axles come out of it. More than likely it will be the later case with only one side differential section of the case removable. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

It'll be a week or more before I get back for pictures. The transmission was removed from 73 brazilian bus that was upgraded to irs , it's a complete unit I was hoping to use under my bus. If it worked in the brazilian bus what is different to make it not work with my bus ? |

| I switched my AB 1972 gearbox to a 67 German one and saw no differences, both sides axles bold the same way to the case. |

The code on this brazilian box is BA , I can't find any info on it anywhere. If it's the original box from 1973 then from what I gather it would have been mated to a 1500 sp engine. So in my mind the ratios should be same as a big nut German box but that's only an assumption.
I'd like to know if the transmission is a direct replacement for a German big nut box both in terms of ratios and in regards to actually fitting my bus correctly. I wanna run bfg ko2s and have no room to spare in rear arches so knowing the track width is the same or is different would be a great help too. |

Sometime in the later Brazil buses used a double axle on each side so images will tell all. As for gearing it has been way too many decades to trust that it has not had gearing changed in a rebuild. We once found a small nut transaxle that turned out to hit 35 MPH @ 3,000 RPM in fourth gear. Instead of the stock 47 MPH @ 3,000 RPM.

Thanks for your help. These boxes are hard to find here and shipping them from overseas is expensive so hopefully I can do a deal on this one and it'll work out fine. |

No problem! Do wire in a temp tach for a fifteen minute drive to see where it hits 1,500 & 3,000 RPM in each gear. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

I bought a Brazilian gearbox by mistake, just so I could get a bus rolling it had no drums so I went to use the German drums I had and found they had different splines on the drive shafts so ended up finding a good German box. _________________ 1962 Turkis Westfalia so34.
