The gauge pod is a 10 dollar ebay item. I just sanded the pebble grain off and painted it.

Why not? As long as the reservoir is set higher than the master cylinder & the hose is long enough to connect them, it'll work just fine. Drill a small hole on the cowl for the hose to pass through (or use the stock hole for the wiper squirter) and rig up a mounting bracket

Did it need an adapter or anything?

I like it a lot. I've been wanting one for quite some time now. Didn't know you could get it in the arrangement you have with the tachometer being so large and the small speedometer.

Hard to see the speedometer but then I though you get used to how fast you are going by engine rpm and what gear you are in.

By the way, where are the idiot lights and turn signal indicator? Are they built into the gauge?

Bought 4.5" and it went right in....no adapter. I guess you could use the OG trim ring with some dremel mods. As for the warning lights I have the turn signal and high beam indicators in the speedo. I need to add a Alt light and oil pressure light to the gauge pod. Looking for something small and incandescent. Right now I just "rigged" the original alternator bulb so the alternator will charge.

I just installed the same sped/tach in my 66 after seeing these photos a while back. Fitment is perfect. The gauge uses a clamp ring attachment method and had it installed into the dash in minutes. I ordered mine with the chrome smoothing trim ring and it looks really nice.

Thanks for that.
Its just that a company here in Australia sells attachment rings for the 4 inch one and I wasnt aware that the 4.5 would fit straight in.

I forgot to post a picture of my gauge after I installed it.
I have the bright light indicator set up as my oil light and the turn signal indicators split for both left and right sides.

For anyone wondering, I have my generator output monitored through my car stereo. I also have my electric fuel pump wired so that if the belt fails and I don't notice the drop in voltage, the fuel pump will shut off and she just runs out of gas.

This is the exact same thing I was going to do when mine comes in. Glad to hear it'll work like I want.

The 4 1/2" IIRC, no mods needed. They fit fantastic

You just call up Speedhut and order direct. First play around in there website and try the different styles. Go to the individual gauge menu, pick your size and style of what kind of gauge you want. Then you just play with the menu options and see the sample of your gauge.

For no extra charge they will put any graphics or logos you want. I called and said I wanted their speedo to match Autometer Cobalt style and they did the rest after I emailed them a pic. 2 weeks later it showed up. Amazing service, made in the USA and lifetime warranty.

They are packed full of features, the only thing they could not fit in the gauge was the oil and gen idiot light, only room for high beam and turn signal indicators. I mounted the oil and gen lights seperate. Even if you order the 80mph speedo like I did, you can still see 81mph+ on the digital read out on the bottom. There's even a 12volt wire hook up so the GPS is ready to read your speed in like 5 seconds after you start the car. No searching for signal like if you restarted your cell phone.

Everything about it is top notch and even Classic Instruments or Auto Meter offer nothing close in comparison. You can get Autometer GPS for more money and those are set up for running adapters and stuff more for American cars. For those that are thinking wtf why would they copy an Autometer design? I TRIED to get a matching Cobalt speedo and gas gauge from them but they couldn't do it in a way that worked for my build. Speedhut steps in and fills the void in the market.

http://www.speedhut.com/gauges/Speedometers/?catid=f8

25 pages of options, just make sure you get GPS 4.5" and say goodbye to that unreliable stock speedo cable.
