Hello.

I have 1973 vw bug. The engine is stock with the exception of twin port heads. Now I think it is not running ok. The spark advance seems not to vary with RPM, vacuum is very low on the gauge. It could be something between the carburetor and the distributor or something else.

Where can I go in LA to get some help on this subject but without costing me an arm and a leg?

Thanks

Isn't that one of the most expensive areas in the country . Do you belong to a vw club.

It varies by load, not rpm. The weights advance the timing off of rpm. The vacuum signal is for load.

Remove the cap and try to twist the rotor. The mechanism should allow you to rotate it one direction and the springs will make it return.

Vacuum can, can be checked with a vacuum pump. Watch the points plate as you pump the pump. Should move smoothly and return when vacuum is released.
