I peeled away some of the crust under my fender and found rusty holes there at the front of the heater channel I believe. Is there an easy way to just patch up this little spot instead of replacing the whole channel (which is a ton of work that I don't have the skills or tools to do). The rest of the heater channels are totally solid, it's just the front part on both sides of the car under the front fender.

So, should I have a shop spot weld some sheet metal there? _________________ 1972 VW Super Beetle

I feel like you should figure out how it rusted there. The rust could be worse than you think so I would check it out. There's gotta be more the story. What I mean by that is if there is rust there, I have no clue where this is, after you get it fixed it might return because the root problem isn't fixed. I don't know, I could be wrong though, but that is what I would do.

I had a small hole in the same area (driver side)
I cut it out, and welded in new metal.

My '70 has the same issue. I'm in the planning stages of fixing it.
Anyway, I bet you have an antenna, up above that area. Mine did and was loose. Rain gets in, and collects at the bottom, rusting it out from the inside.
There are replacement pieces made to go there, or you can fabricate something yourself -- it doesn't appear to be a complicated shape. _________________ Jason |
