I have a 62 bug, transmission is not original I am not sure if it's German, Brazilian or Mexico I have a leak at the rear seal but as I took off the the throw out bearing there is a solid shaft no bolts to take it out. How the heck do I take that shaft out to Chang the rear seal.

You leave it in place and dig out the seal around it without damaging the surface of the shaft or the bore in the case.

One way is to get a couple of wood screws and screw them into the seal. Then you can pull on the heads of the screws.

To install the new seal, find a piece of tubing or pipe the right diameter and tap it in.

Or one of these works well

I have just used a large flat screw driver to pop them out.
