HELP! I cannot get the front bolt out of my shifter. I have used tons of penetrating oil and have got it cherry red with my torch over and over. The head is now chewed up pretty good. It wasn't good to start with. I have even tried using left hand drill bits to drill it out, which has worked for me before.
I even tried to weld another nut on the head of the old one but could not get a good weld with my little MIG unit. I have a hand impact tool. I thought I would cut a groove in the head and then use that but the space is so small, I cannot get a cutting tool in there. I tried a hack saw blade, since I cannot get a hack saw in the space but it is hard to hold and tedious.
Am hoping someone has some real wisdom! |

Working from the bottom sucks... especially with hot work. Hopefully you were heating the nut and not the head.
I'd center-punch and drill 1/8" hole in head... but sounds like you already drilled on the head. Step up drill size to 1/4". Finish with 7/16" or 1/2" & go easy... head will get cut off... threads / nut will drop to ground. Hopefully you won't bugger up the shifter by being off center. _________________ aka: Evan
