I need some help, have problems with gear changing on 58 bus, the problem arose 3 years ago when the gear stick snapped in two during an mot. The pivot cup had been raised up by about 10mm. I have brought two replacement straight gear stick since then, both are the same, they don't locate enough in the shift rod under the floor. I have attached some photos. Any help would be gratefully received. Oh and it was work fine before it snapped!

Summarizing...
Problems with gear changing on 58 bus.
1) Gear stick replaced (probably not really a problem)
2) The pivot cup had been raised up by about 10mm. (hmmmm)
3) Ball doesn't locate enough in the shift rod under the floor. (hmmm)
4) Worked fine before it snapped! (Houston, we have a problem... meaning, something was probably wrong)
Thoughts.
Why'd it snap? (forcing it?)
Where'd it snap? (shaft above ball?)
Ball doesn't locate in cup... but cup was raised?... is it jamming in cup or popping out of cup?
Has the cup been lowered?.... or is it still up ~10mm?
Does it still have the early (stock original) forward shift rod, metal M-spring at shifter bracket & tri-fingered spring at front of shift rod tube.... or has it been converted to plastic bushings / aftermarket forward shift rod?
If the cup is too far up... it won't let the forward shift rod rotate enough on it's long axis. If the cup is too far down... ball will pop out of the cup. _________________ aka: Evan
