The skin is falling off in many places due to rust. No furniture left inside (turned to powder long ago). No engine. Tranny is there but no bell housing. Glass is junk. This thing has been picked to death.

All that's left is the camper top, hammock, those cool louvered windows, three wheels and a valid VIN / title. Lot's of metal but too much rust to call that worth anything.

Do I take it to the scrap yard, or do I list this as a mostly stripped down parts bus? How much is it worth?

I scrapped a completely-stripped bus a few years ago, no doors, front axle, engine trans, interior, glass - I mean STRIPPED. I got something like $110 for it. At the time, steel scrap was going for $10 per hundred pounds.

The doors all have some value if they're not roached on the bottom. Depending on what metal was good, I might say $250-300 or so.. There was a guy selling stripped bus hulls in Alabama not long ago for $250/ea.

Those original bumpers are like gold if they are as nice as I can see from here. They would need a bit of work but there's no way I'd send them to the crusher.

Also those jalousies and the fresh air grill are worth a bit too.

Notch, good call, I do the same thing - thought I was the only guy dumb enough to want old wiring harnesses! Laughing

Personally I'd pull everything that's not rusted in place off the bus and save and sell (door handles, light trims, dash etc. Including deck lid etc.) Then trash the ol'girl Crying or Very sad
What year is the red one? You parting that one too?

I'll restore the red one as soon as I sell the one I just finished up. It has a good body though the floors need some luvin'. It's my typical starter bus.

Salvage the parts that you can as suggested earlier Very Happy then make a bar! Cool I have a "scrap/parts" bus that was given to me for free!! I am making a bar this summer once I finish the out door kitchen. I am not gong to paint it, just clear coat the patina and go with it! Cool there are lots of ideas out there Shocked

Unless you don't need the money............

I would go out there with a pile of tools and some plastic bins (and some helpers if you have them--- will work for beer).... and strip EVERYTHING that will unbolt. Then, if you feel like it, start cutting up the rest.

From the pics: Bumpers (with guards), doors, rear hatch, louvered side windows, headlights, taillights, slider, pop top, transmission, wiring harness, guage cluster, steering column, parking lights, spare tie mount, fresh air vent, glass, slider beltline covers, brake drums, front disc brake assemblies, steering box, engine lid, gas tank, Wiper arms, wiper motor, interior panels, ANY brackets, mounts or other items inside, outside or underneath that unbolt... etc. Any 10 year old knows that it's EASY to take something apart (harder to put it back together and working Very Happy ).

Bus is worth a couple hundred with a title AS IS. Could be a grand or MORE in parts.

ONE weekend and that thing should look like ARMY ANTS stripped it clean!

If you are restoring the 1970... you outta grab all the parts anyways!!!!!!!!

What intriguing is if in say, 10-15 years, folks will be fixing bay buses that are rustier than this one. Sadly, right now this bus is worth more in parts than complete.

Let's the vultures circle the corpse..

X2. It would be worth just striping the brake system for the '70.

Please contact Sunnydog on here. He could really use a couple of those short overriders for his Dads old bus.
