|
|
I have recently purchased a 1973 westy project, this bus came without a fuel tank. I have located a tank out of a 1970 bus pretty close to me at a reasonable price. Will this work?? Are there any known issues?
Thanks in advance! |

1973 westy project
The fuel sender vibrator and gauge are different. If it is fuel injected you will need to "T" in a return line. It will fit in the same space though.

I think bus depot and others have new tanks available these days. Don't know about quality and fit though. |

If it's an early 73 the sender is compatible, if it's the later bayonet mount style the fuel gauge will be a blur due to a bouncing needle. The outlet will match but the vent tubes will require some crafty plumbing to get everything Teed together and functional. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

On a side note, I just pulled my fuel tank out a 73 project. The exterior of the tank is in good shape. The inside had some old nasty fuel and sediment in it. A friend had recommended using a POR-15 fuel tank repair product for cleaning and re-sealing. Has anyone tried this with any success? Or can anyone recommend a process that's worked for them? Thanks |

Avoid the POR-15, infact avoid any coating unless the tank is full of pinholes, in that case the Bill Hirsch product is far superior to the POR.
Start by giving it a good old cleaning and see how it turns out: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=378770 _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
