I bought a pair of Weber IDF 40 carbs used and the PO put on the fuel enrichment block off plates but removed the Pistons and springs and keepers so the carbs run way too rich. I can't find these parts anywhere, does anyone have any information on where to get them? Thank you |

They don't get used in most VW applications. They are damned near impossible to get replacements for, but all you need to do is tap and plug the hole in the base of the carburetor. A couple of small set-screws and the right sized tap and you'll be all set. |

Not sure what I'm not understanding here, but when I have carb apart and spray carb cleaner in that bottom hole it doesn't seem to go anywhere |

The ports on bottom should direct connect to enrichment plunger bores... If you can not get carb cleaner through then its possible ports/passages are already plugged....
You should be able to follow the passage becasue of the obvious casting bulges that define passages and find either they are plugged or not even drilled...

Thanks for your input. I thought that the cleaner should spray through, it looks like it should. Maybe they are not drilled and carbs never had plungers in there to begin with. I guess that's why all of the exploded views of IDF carbs don't show those parts. Perhaps the rich condition I experienced was due to too large of jets or maybe someone drilled them out. I will have to investigate that |

New EMPI HPMX (generation 3) has completely done away with everything to do with enrichment circuits, they have new casting that don't even have openings for cover plate...

My older 44 IDF's were never drilled for the enrichers, not all carbs had them. |

If the springs/plungers are installed, and the choke attachment is blocked off (block off plate installed), is there any reason to tap and plug the ports? |

Yeah, first time I messed with the damn things, the spring shot the washer across my damn garage. I looked all over the place and was about to give up.
Somehow it landed in the carb throat of the carb that was sitting next to it...damn near straight up and down. I was crawling all over the floor like an idiot |
