One of my spare motors came to me in the purchase of my '59 DC. It is a 1641cc with two dual Weber (Italian) 40 IDF carbs (total of four barrels) and for the two years I drove it in my DC it was awesome! Now sits in the garage as a spare. Replaced by a 36hp VW factory rebuilt "exchange" engine. I thought it would be too much carburation for the motor, but it was a surprising nice combination on that 1641 motor.

May as well be asking what oil is best for your 1641, ha, ha.

You're on the right track though #singlecarbsareforlawnmowers

Run carbs you're familiar with and use a quality linkage.

Not that it means much, but I'd suggest 40 IDF's or 40 DCNF's with Berg linkage. I'm partial to DCNF's myself.

Once properly setup, clogged idle jets will probably be the most common issue and are easy to diagnose and fix.
