Oil deflector plate installed wrong, 90 degrees off

Hi folks. So I noticed some oil dripping from the oil bath air intake on my '71 Super, and it was way too much to be spillage from the bath itself. Plus, it appeared to be dripping from the tube that comes from the oil filler (generator stand).

After digging through some pictures of the engine rebuild, it turns out we installed the oil deflector plate wrong. Here's what it looks like:

Sorry for the bad quality, but you can clearly see it's 90 degrees off. Here's how they are supposed to be installed:

With the curved side of the louvre towards the split in the case.

So the question is... can this be fixed without pulling the motor? It looks like I'll have to pull the carb to get to the generator fan bolts on the fan shroud, but then it might be possible to get the generator stand unbolted from there.

Yes. Pull the alternator. You'll have to remove the fan nut in car. Leave fan in shroud. Remove alternator. Unbolt stand after that.

And this really sucks.

The way I people usually do something about making the stand removable is by replacing the studs with bolts... but this is done prior to installing the engine.

This way you can slid the alternator with the stand and all out by removing bolts.

I would advise that if it is something you can do, you pull the motor as it is MUCH MUCH easier to re install all ancillaries that have to be removed to take off the stand.

But is this isn't something you can readily do, the first thing I would try is double, nutting the studs and trying to remove them... the problem is you may need special "thin" nuts. Which I am not sure exist. Perhaps you can machine them thinner from thicker ones.

Once this is done, if it is even possible (as this may be quite fidgety)
You'd unbolt the fan backing plate and out it comes... or not. You may not clear the intake manifold even after all this fidgeting. Especially if you have an alternator that has that cast lip at the end. Maybe if you tilt the alternator up with the bolts loosened on the backing plate the stand may budge without intake removal.

The other option is lift the shroud off with alternator attached...and out. But if you have thermostat flaps and the linkage it may be a ROYAL PAIN to put it back on with the motor in car.

I put them in each way...at the same time one up and one down.no issues.

It does matter which way it goes. On and engine such as stock build with only the breather coming out of the oil filler on the alt/gen stand. If not installed correctly it allows to much oil to be thrown up into the stand and out the breather hose.
I seen it happen more than a few times.
Even the 40hp (1200cc) with the just the round hole in the case needed a baffle inside the stand.

possiably blowby also plays a part in this..... I never had any issue with my stock oil pipe dripping, I nolonger use them now days there just too ugly kinda like a baja with all the tinware&breast plates&filler/drippy thingy& such along with oe exhaust.
