One for you expert, probably old school, mechanics and tool seers.
What is this?
The numbers are J-28321 K-M USA.
Was given to me as an old ball joint tool for a super beetle. Looks like some sort of spanner wrench. Google searches bring up all sorts of results from a Druckstemple halter druckteller or a cylinder holder or even head tool. So if you know what this is please let me know. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

Thank you for the responses, I guess I never thought to ask the company that made it. The web site is very vague on the description so it might not get me much further but worth a try. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

It’s definitely some sort of pin spanner. It’s hanging on my vintage tool wall in the garage now. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

Your guess is as good as mine, a current tech for VW dealership gave it to me and he said it was for super beetle ball joints but I wouldn’t know where. I don’t have a super so I can’t look to see if it would fit anything. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

On 61 to about 66 (or 68?) transmissions, there is a round nut with 4 notches that holds down the pinion bearing and 1st gear inner race on the pinion shaft. Depending on the size of that, it might be for this use. I'll try to get a pic later. _________________

| I’ve seen aftermarket bus inner reduction box nuts (64-67) with four slots to accept a wrench like that before. I’ve always used a chisel to remove them, and then used the normal nut which takes a 41mm socket to remove. |

I can’t take an id measurement tomorrow. It’s hanging on my vintage tool wall in the shop. Maybe for the reduction gear box. It’s been ages since I’ve been in one of those. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.
