Brought a T2 on 1st May, got it from Devon to Bristol. Journey started okay but as it came up M5 starting missing, wouldnt start at services after 50 miles (seemed very hot) just about made it. Then would not start at all....... EASY Start has no effect so I am thinking electrical (should I be??)
Brought filters, leads, rotor arm plugs - started, ran 'ish' but after 5 miles it was banging away, no power so got a tow home and now parked up 400 metres away.....
Engine is a T4? Solex carbs, distributor with vacuum advance? Is that right for a UK 2.0ltr, Haynes manual indicates not?
Plugs are wet, so brought a Bosch coil - no change....
Any ideas or do I have to start with first principles - compression etc etc. Guy who sold it had it 20 years, engine was done couple of years back and heads look new. |

Have you check the coil to see if it weak and possibly heating up? |

Sounds like the points gap has closed up, likely due to the plastic block breaking off where it rubs on the cam. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Old coil did get warm so I replaced with a new one and no change. Van is away from home so I haven't checked voltages, compression etc etc. |

I would start by installing some new points that were adjusted using my dwell meter to that sweet spot of 47º +/- 3º and then timed to about 28º BTDC (vacuum hoses off and plugged) at about 3500 RPMs.
I assume this is a Type 4 engine with the factory dual carbs? |
