Hi, i have rust on my 1981 Vanagon rear hatch, i have access to a 1992 rear hatch.
Is it a bolt on replacement, does it require modification, will it even fit.

Thanks for any info

The guy told me on the phone it was a 1992 and was a rear engine.

Lets assume it`s a 1990 or 1991, will the rear hatch fit.

Thanks
Paul

Paul.
To be save, ask for a photo first.
Please indicate where you are located, Members in your area may have one that you can have.

I'll answer the question.

If it is a Vanagon Hatch, yes it will fit.

There are 3 main styles of rear hatch.
1980 - 1983 Small lock button, no rear wiper
1984 - 1988 Recessed large lock button, most rear wiper
1989-1991 Recessed large lock button, VW logo in center, most rear wiper

1989-1991 is really nice and will probably have the power lock solenoid.

Do the latches on the body need to be changed over as well, or are the newer T3 hatches plug 'n play on the early van?
