After removing most of the interior, glasses, fenders and taking the bug apart, today I took the shell off the pan in order to start replacing the floor pans , having the brakes fixed, replacing bushing and every thing that will need replacing . the goal is the have it mechanic fixed before the shell will be put back.

Go Wolfsburg West for the pans... you'll be happier.

It appears to be a lot of work due to corrosion issues. Do you plan on doing a VW showroom restoration? If so, expect to spend spend more than you think if that's your goal. Every system (paint, metal work, suspension, drivetrain, interior, trim, etc.) will need attention.

The 1st thing I would do is have the body shell media blasted and then sealed to prevent rust. This way you know exactly what your dealing with and there will be no surprises.

Wow, that bug was rode hard and put up wet! Why all the rust on it? Is it humid there or was it by the ocean salt air? Seems like a lot of salt type rust damage.

Good luck with your project. You've got LOTS of work ahead of you but it's so worth it when you're driving it down the road when it's done.

Noooooooo! Orange pans Shocked Confused Your gonna have to move the seat tracks and those things are like paper. You should have taken my advice...

Anyway, it's good to see you are jumping right in with the floors and not trying to make patches everywhere.

From what I understand of the orange pans, the tracks are angled toward the tunnel if you look at the head on.

Are you able to find new replacement parts from dealers anywhere in your country, or do you need to import them from Europe? Are there junkyards in your country away from the big cities where there might be a Beetle with less rust, that you can use for parts or for cutting out original metal sections to fix yours?

Is that a 34hp (40hp in the US) 1200 engine with "stale air" heater boxes, based on the outward bump of the fan shroud near the bottom as seen on the passenger side of the engine? Or actually fresh air heater boxes?

finding a 1959 vw bug here is near to impossible, I am very lucky to find the one I am restoring. so forget about getting a donure car in decenat shape .
the engine and transmission arent original they are from 1969 bug.

Looks like fun. Slightly worse shape than my 56 Oval project. Like the other posts said, be prepared for some expenses. I ended up with $14K into mine. The only thing I jobbed out was the heater channel and front cross-member replacement so it would be square again and assembly of the short block. Great therapy though....
