After 25+ years of ownership my wife finally wants to get an FM radio and auxiliary input jack in her '68 Squareback, replacing the old AM radio. She is the second owner of this car and I've done all the maintenance for the last several decades. Living in a small town as we do, she has yet to break 100,000 miles.

Her S/B never had an antenna, just a block-out plate. So I purchased the correct antenna (HIT AUTA 970 b) from Hirschmann. I've removed the block-out plate (saved it) and the antenna mounts into the car beautifully.

MY QUESTION IS: What is the correct routing of the coax wire from the bottom of the antenna (behind the left-side front fender, just in front of the driver's door) TO THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. I'm hoping the answer is not "drill a hole". The car still has the original German 'tar' finish on the underside and there is no rust or corrosion. Either pictures or description, some sage guidance here from the community would be greatly appreciated on this fairly simple question. Thanks for any input!

There should be a rubber plug about 3 inches below the top of the fender, in front of the rear of the fender bolt line (row of vertical screws).

I think it has a funny custom grommet where it penetrates the cabin. This is important to avoid water entry, where is drips right onto your fusebox!

Sort of like this one for the speedo cable, maybe?:

I think the hole it goes through is the one in this photo... below the rearmost fender bolt hole and ahead of the main wiring hole:

I expected WCM to stock it, but their @#$%&* website is so slow it locks up my PC, so I couldn't search and find the part.

I think many companies never actually try to use their own website!

Bobnotch and KTPhil, THANKS for the description and the photo. I'll follow-up with a photo after I get it installed. The WCM website worked really smoothly for me, (an old PC guy) and the parts are on order. Best wishes.
