|
|
Well it's getting warm enough to start working on my car. I got the driver side door card off and the disappointment set in. First thing was the made in China window cranks. Them both door cards had 65 and up written on the backs of them. There has obviously been some work done. This is what's left of the check strap..
I thought the clip was supposed to be at the bottom of the pin? The two inside the door have the pin clips at the bottom..
My big question is, what is this piece called on the inside of the window? The red arrow points to the thin chrome piece. It appears to clip into the top plastic trim piece on each door.
I know the window scraper is on the outside. Thanks in advance. |

It’s the window felt - it has a row of clips into the top of the door frame. I think some years had one and others two.
I got good quality replacements from kgpr if it’s worn. |

Yep.... window scraper felt. My '74 has one on each side.
Oh, and window cranks new, are weak a$$ pot metal stuff from China. I've snapped two already. I've bought the chrome/black Beetle ones and they seem to be working. _________________ '74 Zambezi green Ghia vert, autostick, 103k

Thank you both for the confirmation on the window felt piece. I've seen when the outside window scraper comes up for sale, it's usually listed with the felt. I thought it was one piece. Now I know what to order. |

Yeah, CIP1.com has them on sale 'til the 31st.
I think you'll need to buy the felt and the rubber outside window scraper (which ain't cheap). _________________ '74 Zambezi green Ghia vert, autostick, 103k

The outside scraper assembly seems to be gone from existence, at least for the coupe. It's still sold for the verts but I'm guessing there's enough of a difference between the two that buying the assembled scraper for the very won't fit on the coupe... |

in searching the forum regarding the outside window scraper for a 72-74 Ghia, I found that the only difference between the two is that the coupe has a beveled edge where it meets the A pillar and a squared off door latch end while the vert has both ends beveled, with the door latch end being beveled to meet the top when folded down. I also read that the doors themselves would be interchangeable, minus the door glass itself. The coupe window scraper wouldn’t work on a vert but I don’t see why the vert scraper won’t work on a coupe. Has anyone done that? I’ve still got my doors apart so now would be the time to order. Thanks in advance. |

But that shouldn't necessarily affect the fit of a piece that stays solely within the confines of a door edge should it?
